July 7, 1952 - August 31, 2018. Linda King Lawrence, lovingly known as "Lindy," passed away peacefully at her home in Scottsdale, Arizona on Friday, August 31, 2018. She was a life-long resident of Texarkana, Texas, but had recently moved to Scottsdale to be closer to her two children. After graduation from Texas High School in Texarkana, Lindy was a Pi Beta Phi at the University of Arkansas. Following her marriage to her high school sweetheart, Richard Lawrence, she transferred to TAMUT (formerly East Texas State University-Texarkana) where she earned her Bachelor's degree, and later, a Master's degree in Education. She was a clothes consultant for Carlisle and Doncaster for over twenty-five years. After the death of her mother in the 1980s, Lindy was instrumental in researching the need and securing the seed money from the Junior League of Texarkana to bring the first Hospice to Texarkana. She then served on the Hospice Board many years to oversee its development. She was also a member of the St. James Day School Board of Trustees for two different terms and helped various non-profits in Texarkana, including Race for the Cure. Lindy was the kind of friend everyone hopes to have once in their life. Her care for others was always genuine, and she was a positive inspiration to all she knew. Lindy felt her greatest accomplishment in life was being mother to her two children and a loving grandmother to five grandchildren. She was strong, independent, fiercely loving, and an incredibly smart woman who was extremely protective of her family. She had a genuine love of life which was contagious if you were in her presence. To know her was to love her. Only a month before her death, Lindy was able to spend several weeks at the family's summer home in Charlevoix, Michigan as she has done since she was a child. The weeks at this special place with her siblings, her children, and her grandchildren was especially joyous for her, and a time never to be forgotten by her family. Lindy was preceded in death by her mother, Fritzie Holman King, her father, Frank King, her husband of 42 years, Richard Lawrence, and a nephew, Matthew Kersey. She is survived by her children, King Kitrell Lawrence and daughter-in-law, Amy, and her daughter, Carly Lawrence Loving. She also leaves one sister, Carol King Racheotes and brother-in-law, Peter, three brothers, Mike King and sister-in-law Rose Mary, brother Cliff King and sister-in-law Robbi, and brother, Tracy King. Also surviving Lindy are the five grandchildren she adored: Whit Loving, Luke Loving, Levi Loving, London Lawrence, and Jet Lawrence. She is also survived by a large and loving family of nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held for Lindy, a life-long Episcopalian, at St. James Episcopal Church, 417 Olive Street, Texarkana, TX on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Father Douglas Anderson, Rector. The family suggests memorial donations be made to Hospice of Texarkana, Komen Race for the Cure, or the charity of your choice in memory of Lindy.
