AUG. 21, 1941 SEPT. 12, 2018 John Henry Simon, born August 21, 1941, passed from this life at his devoted daughter's home in Atlanta on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018, after a three year battle with lung cancer. He was 77 years old. He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel John and Bessie Marie (Tucker) Simon; son, Jason Richard Simon; sister, Sandra Kay Simon; and great-grandson, Harvey Alphred Clark. He is survived by son, Jonathan Paul Simon of Nashville, Ark.; daughter, Angela Guillory and husband Bobby of Atlanta; sister, JoAnn Thacker and husband Jimmy of Texarkana, Ark.; and six grandchildren, Dr. Robert Michael Guillory, Ashton Nicole Guillory, Holly Cheyenne Simon, Connor Aaron Simon, Caitlyn Michelle Simon and Marcus Foalan Simon; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. John honorably served his country in the US Army and achieved the Vietnam Service Medal. He was known around the world for his artistic talent as a leather smith, making custom saddles, leather tack, belts, leather animals, ornaments, tooling boot tops, pictures and chairs. He was even commissioned to tool a chair to be presented to George W. Bush when in office. He was a devoted father who loved his family. In turn he was loved and respected by those who knew him. A visitation will be in his honor from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16 at Queen City Funeral Home. A funeral service for John will be under the direction of Queen City Funeral Home.
