ALVER SHUMAKE
DeKALB, Texas—Alver Freeman Shumake, 97, of DeKalb died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018, in a Texarkana hospice.
Mrs. Shumake was born Aug. 6, 1921, in Red River County, Texas. She was a retired supervisor with Phillips Industries, a homemaker and a member of Pinkham Missionary Baptist Church, DeKalb. She was preceded in death by two husbands, William Frank Freeman and Robert "Pete" Shumake; one daughter, Peggy Ann Davis; two sons, Billy Frank Freeman and Wileen Shumake; two great-grandsons, Nick Shumake and Aiden Pate; and one great-granddaughter, Anna Pate.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Henry and Kathy Freeman of Avery, Texas, Bobby and Juanella Freeman of New Boston, Texas, and Roger Shumake of DeKalb; one brother and sister-in-law, L.J. and Joy Baird of Henderson, Texas; three sisters, Frances Murphree of Florissant, Colo., Ruby "Jackie" Kimble of DeKalb and Mary Ruth Combs of Mineola, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Bates Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Lambert officiating. Burial will be in Boxelder Cemetery.
Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Pinkham Memorial Missionary Baptist Church or Nick's Mission in DeKalb.
