Hogs fall to Magnolia, 61-31

TEXARKANA, Ark. -- Magnolia got in a groove and never let up in a 61-31 victory over Arkansas High at Razorback Gym on Monday in a boys varsity basketball game.

"It went like we thought it would go," Hogs head coach Sam Weaver said. "Magnolia is a good team and they have a great player. The team is well coached. We didn't put up much of a fight. We're still learning. We have one starter back from last year and a bunch of new guys. It's gonna take us a little time to get there if we can just keep everyone on board. We'll find us a win.

"We have played two state-championship caliber teams right off the bat. It's not smart scheduling on my part, but it is what it is. I like our kids and the improvement that we have made. We have to continue to get better."

Quavy Ross led Arkansas High with 10 points.

The Panthers outscored the Hogs in the third quarter, 18-6, to take a 59-23 lead. The clock ran continuously in the fourth quarter due to the mercy rule.

Arkansas High outscored Magnolia in the fourth, 8-2. Ross scored four of his 10 points in the final quarter. The Hogs put together a 6-0 rally in the fourth.

Derrian Ford poured in 27 points for the Panthers, while teammate Nevi Tell finished with 15.
