TEXARKANA, Texas - 0BG's Sassy Creations, featuring a range of mostly handmade items, has opened at Central Mall. Featuring things like bows, clothes, and more unusual, like tumblers and devices for personal defense, it all has the hand-made touch of shop owner Brittany Gearlds.
"It all started out with making bows for my daughter when she was little," said Gearlds. "My friends were interested and I began making those for them. Over time, I expanded into all the other items and before I knew it, I had a business."
From providing for her friends' craft needs, eventually, she had an outlet on Facebook. BG's Sassy Southern Bling became her point of sale for a long time. But even then, the level of business Gearlds was doing encouraged her to go bigger.
"At that point, I operated an outlet at first Monday in Canton," she said. "But over time, even that needed expansion."
So in October, she took over the former GameStop slot in Central Mall, with BG's Sassy Creations.
"Things were good and it was time to expand," said Gearlds. "At this point, the more permanent location made business sense. Besides, the expansion will allow me to eventually bring my husband into the business. His current employment keeps him out on the road a lot and it would be good to have him home more for our daughter."
The shop also has self-defense weapons.
"I was in the Army," she said. "That sort of thing stuck with me."
