Tigers fall in regional semifinals

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas -- Texas High is one of the strongest Class 5A tennis teams in Northeast Texas.

Unfortunately, the Tigers also are in the one of the strongest regions -- Region II-5A -- in the Lone Star State.

Texas High reached the regional semifinals again, and again the Tigers were eliminated.

Frisco Lebanon Trail, ranked in the Top 5 in the state, ousted Texas High, 10-0, Thursday at Richland Hills Tennis Center.

"It was a tough loss," stated dejected Tiger coach Toby Watson. "We have gotten to this point in regional the last several years, but we always seem to run into (Dallas) Highland Park or a Frisco school every time."

Highland Park has won 21 team tennis state titles, including the last five in a row.

"The Tigers competed until the end but weren't able to come through against this tough opponent," coach Watson said. "We are so proud of how hard this team has worked this Fall...they've improved so much since our season began back in early August.

"They can truly hold their heads high. We can't wait to see what this group can do this Spring."
