Eight volunteer fire departments in Miller County get checks from Arkansas

TEXARKANA, Ark. -- With Miller County's Pleasant Hill Volunteer Fire Department disbanding earlier last year, the remaining eight other VFDs will be getting a very small amount of one-time extra state funding.

The Miller County Intergovernmental Council recently agreed to redistribute the former VFD's Arkansas State 1991 Act 833 Fire Protection Tax Funds, to the county's other eight VFDs.

This amounted to just $38.85 to be distributed to the remaining VFD stations, which include the Mandeville, Genoa, Booker Bridge, Trinity, Boggy Creek, Bright Star, Satellite and Doddridge fire stations, according to Miller County Treasurer records.

Pleasant Hill's state tax funds, as well as the tax funds for the remaining stations are set to arrive June 30 of this year.

Of the remaining eight VFDs, Doddridge received the most Act 833 Fire Protection Tax Funds, which amounted to $9,647, while Boggy Creek came in second with $9,631, followed by Satellite, with $9,630, Mandeville with $9,617 and Genoa with $9,614. Booker Bridge received $7,202, with Trinity taking in $2,461 and Bright Star with $2,430.
