Dixie Webster died August 11, 2018 after a lengthy illness. She was 72. She was born to Elmer "Sleepy" and Vela Turner in 1945. She graduated from Linden-Kildare High School in 1963, where she met Paul Webster. They married later that year. She was the Bert to his Ernie. She had a wicked sense of humor that was often overshadowed by Paul's. She retired from the Cass County District Clerk's office after 34 years and was a past Worthy Matron of the Linden Eastern Star chapter. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Linden. Dixie was the first director of the Food and Rug Administration in refusing to allow her children to eat on the carpet at their home. Before IMDB, she was the source of all movie trivia in which unknown actors in movies were always Angela Cartwright or Ward Bond. She also refused to watch biblical movies because she knew how they would end. Every year, usually during the late summer or early fall, there would be an unexpected household expense that would result in her declaring, "Christmas is going to suck this year, kids." After her retirement, she and Paul traveled but mostly just went out to eat every day. It was their favorite thing to do. In fact, the demise of the local Panchos franchises came around the time of their retirement and the serving of all you can eat guacamole. It wasn't a coincidence. She wasn't a big history fan and on family vacations, she would drive at Mach 3 through historical sites, trying to get to a restaurant. She enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers, often uttering profanities when they did not play well. Several new televisions were purchased before Super Bowls in which the Cowboys played. Her fried chicken was THE best and she loved the corner pieces in a pan of brownies, daring anyone else to eat them. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Doyce Turner, and husband, Paul. She is survived by her daughter, Tracy Webster of Longview and son, Clay Webster and Phillip Gurganus of Hallsville and also a sister, Donna Ayers, of Atlanta. Also by granddaughters Catie Francis of Dallas and Taylor Leftwich of Diana and great-grandsons Ryder and Weston Leftwich. She is also survived by her granddogs, Max, Berkeley, Reese, Andy and Pablo, all of whom were allowed to eat on the carpet. Her children are still bitter. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 15, 2018 in the chapel of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden with Rodney Love officiating. Burial will follow in the Bear Creek Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden. There will be a time of visitation from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
