JOHN ALVIS

DeKALB, Texas—John D. Alvis, 94, of DeKalb died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018, at a local nursing home. Mr. Alvis was born Sept. 11, 1923, in Athens, Texas. He was a self-employed truck driver, a member of Pinkham Memorial Missionary Baptist Church and World War II Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Estelle Weaver Alvis of DeKalb; one son, Richard Alvis of Texarkana; one daughter, Judith A. Walls of DeKalb; and a number of other relatives. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bates Family Funeral Home with the Re. Don McPherson officiating. Burial will be in Hubbard Chapel Cemetery.
