January 12, 1934 July 18, 2018 Charlotte Aleta Tarpley-Leslie was born in Hope, Arkansas, January 12, 1934 to Charles and Aleta Tarpley. Charlotte graduated from Hope High School and attended Austin College for 2 years before transferring to Hendrix, where she graduated with a teaching degree. She was married to Kenneth Leslie for 52 years, and together they raised 3 children. Charlotte loved to sing, play bridge, and shop both in stores and from her favorite catalogs. Charlotte had a passion for history and loved visiting museums and historical sites. After retiring from teaching, Charlotte volunteered at the Ace of Clubs House where she loved sharing her knowledge of history. Charlotte was a member of Williams Memorial Methodist Church & enjoyed being there singing hymns on Sunday mornings. She was a member of United Methodist Women, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Texas Retired Teacher's Association, & several other organizations. Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Aleta Tarpley, husband, Kenneth Leslie, and daughter, Leta Carter. Charlotte is survived by daughter, Kathy Thurman and Gary of Quitman, TX, son, Sam Leslie and Scottie of Little Rock, AR, grandchildren, Josh Northcutt and Julie from Texarkana, TX, Carter Northcutt of Shreveport, LA, Erin Whitten and Ryan of Little Rock, AR, and Blake Thurman of College Station, TX. Charlotte had 5 great-grandchildren, Madison Northcutt, Mallory Northcutt, Macie Northcutt, Jake Whitten, and Kyle Whitten. The family would like to thank Cornerstone Retirement Community and Heritage Hospice for their care and support. The family will receive friends from 5-6:30 P.M. Thursday, July 19, 2018, at Texarkana Funeral Home, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, July 20, 2018, at Williams Memorial United Methodist Church, with Dr. Brad Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Williams Memorial Methodist Church or to the Foundation for Alzheimer's Research.
