John Cowart

John S. Cowart, 74, of Texarkana, Texas, died Friday, May 11, 2018, in Atkins, Ark. Mr. Cowart was born March 18, 1944, in Orange, Texas. He was a retired Texarkana, Texas, police officer; a former Miller County sheriff's deputy and Texarkana, Ark., police officer; and a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. Survivors include one sister and brother-in-law, Jo and Ira Taylor of Atkins; six nephews, Jimmy Cowart Jr. and Col. John David Cowart of Fouke, Ark., Mark Taylor, Chris Taylor and Brent Taylor of Pope County, Ark., and Chaplain Heath Taylor of Camp Pendleton, Calif.; one niece, Missy Taylor Hooten of Pope County; and a number of other relatives. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at East Funeral Home, Downtown, with the Rev. David Holder officiating. Burial will be in Richmond Cemetery, Ashdown, Ark.
