PATRICIA AKINS

De QUEEN, Ark.—Patricia "Tip" Allen Akins, 94, of Houston, Texas, died Tuesday, May 8, 2018. Mrs. Akins was born July 24, 1923, in De Queen. She was formerly employed at First National Bank, a writer and a secrectary at Fair Park High School. She was a solist and choir singer at Mangum Memorial United Methodist Church and, later, Broadmoor United Methodist Church, Shreveport, La. She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Sheppard Akins Sr.; and one grandchild, Dirk Duane Miller Jr. Survivors include five children and spouses, Tia Akins Gurvitz of Lexington, Ky., Morris Sheppard Jr. and Susan Akins of Fayetteville, Ark., and Jeri Akins and James Carlton of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Dr. Shira Gurvitz Gambrel of Lexington; Kelsi Gurvitz Harrington of Houston, Matthew Alan Akins and Dr. Elizabeth Leigh Akins of Fayetteville; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Broadmoor United Methodist Church, Shreveport, with Dr. Greg Davis officiating. Burial will be in Redmen Cemetery, De Queen.
