Patsy Witherspoon Poulos was born June 10, 1926 in Springfield, Missouri and died February 25, 2021 in Texarkana, Texas. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jacqueline Poulos and her older brother, Dr. Rex Witherspoon. Mrs. Poulos received her Bachelor of music degree, summa cum laude, from Drury University, Springfield, Missouri, and is a former music teacher and church organist. She was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, professional music fraternity, and Mortar Board honorary scholastic fraternity. She was a faithful member of St. James Episcopal Church where singing in the choir was her special interest. Mrs. Poulos was a leader in many organizations. She is a past president of: Women of St James Church, Junior League of Texarkana active and sustaining memberships, Women of the Arts, Gateway Garden Club, Delta Delta Delta collegiate and alumni chapters, and local and district Dental Auxiliaries. She was a member of the Board of Directors of the following organizations: Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council, Texarkana Historical Society and Museums, Texarkana Community Chorus, and Texarkana Community Concerts. She received the Distinguished Alumni Award for Community Service from Drury University. She received the Junior League Outstanding Sustainer Award in recognition of her contributions to her community and to the Junior League. She received special recognition for her outstanding volunteer contributions to the Texarkana community from the YWCA Tribute to Women and from Leadership Texarkana. Mrs. Poulos was a homemaker and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband Dr. George Poulos of Texarkana; two sons and a daughter-in law; Bryan K Poulos and Patricia of The Cliffs of Possum Kingdom Lake, Texas and Bradley C Poulos of Fayetteville, Arkansas; granddaughter Natalie Poulos of Berkeley, CA; grandson Nicholas Poulos of Asheville, North Carolina; step-grandson Benjamin Hagan and two great grandchildren, Annie and Everett Hagan of Dallas, Texas; one brother Dr. James Witherspoon and Becky of Bryan Texas, a sister-in-law Jan Witherspoon of Springfield, Missouri along with several nieces and nephews. Interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Texarkana TX under the direction of East Funeral Home-Downtown. A graveside service will be held Monday, March 1, 2021 at 10:00 am with The Very Reverend David Halt officiating. The family, out of concern for COVID exposure, requests a private service. Memorials may be made to St James Episcopal Church, Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanity Council, Texarkana Symphony Orchestra or a charity of your choice.
